Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Calum Chambers after agreeing a deal that is reportedly in the region of £16million.
According to BBC Sport, the 19-year-old completed a medical with the Gunners on Friday and that only a few minor details remain to be sorted before the deal can be announced.
Limited experience
Chambers has only made 25 senior appearances for Southampton, almost all of those as a right-back, and he will now challenger another new signing at Emirates Stadium for the right-back spot, Mathieu Debuchy.

However, the Mirror claim that the deal will be closer to £7million, though add-ons could take it higher, and that the Saints agreed to sell Chambers to Arsenal after he made it clear to the club that he wanted to move to north London.
More than just a RB
Chambers will join two fellow Southampton youth academy graduates at the Gunners in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott. Interestingly, the report also claims that Arsene Wenger is not only expecting him to challenge for the right-back spot.
The Arsenal manager sees Chambers as possibly developing into an option at centre-back and even in the centre of midfield, where he played for most of his time coming through the ranks at Southampton before being converted to full-back in the first team.
Chambers will be Wenger’s third signing of the summer after the capture of Debuchy and the exciting £30million swoop for Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez. Arsenal are reportedly also looking to sign a defensive midfielder and the BBC report claims an enquiry has been made regarding the availability of Morgan Schneiderlin.
