Manchester United have been given a week to put up the €50million Juventus are demanding for Arturo Vidal or forget about signing him at all.

Metro are running with reports from Italian newspaper Tuttosport that claim the Serie A champions do not want Vidal to leave but will accept an offer of the size mentioned and as long as it comes in before August 2.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with a possible move for the Chile international in the report, but €50million is an expensive outlay and the Premier League giants are reportedly reluctant to pay quite so much.

Star in Brazil

Vidal was one of the standout performers at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this summer and is expected to make a big-money move before the transfer window closes in September. The 27-year-old has had a very successful three seasons with Juventus, winning three Scudetti, but a step up in arguably needed at this stage of his career.

New Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has already added Ander Herrera to his midfield ranks in a £29million deal with Athletic Bilbao, but there have been calls for a more combative addition in that area and Vidal would provide more than a little.

Player stockpiling

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been busy recruiting a number of players in preparation for a Champions League campaign next season and have cash to spare after the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Captain Steven Gerrard recently announced his international retirement and at 34 years old he is heading into the final years of his career – Vidal could be seen as a long-term replacement.
