Last year Bayern captured the Bundesliga title with weeks until the last game, however they bowed out of the Champion's League on a sour note, losing to Real Madrid. There is little doubt Bayern Munich will retain their league title this year, but their eyes are set on reclaiming their spot as European Champions.
At this time last year, though it wasn't announced, many Borussia Dortmund fans knew that their star striker, Robert Lewandowski, would not return to the club at the end of the coming season. Knowing where he was departing to also led to more anger, since the scars left by Mario Götze's departure to Munich were still fresh. Even more unfortunate for Dortmund fans was the fact that they were getting nothing out of this-Robert Lewandowski was leaving for free.
Dortmund's system helped bring out the best in Lewy, and made him the prized forward that scored four goals against Real Madrid in the Champion's League a few years ago. There were obvious uncertainties about him being able to replicate his form in another club, but right now the doubters are probably biting their words now.
Lewy has so far scored four goals in the last three games, and although the games have been friendlies, the quality of the goals and his link up play during attacks are those of a striker playing at the top of his game. What makes this more exciting, is the chemistry being developed between the forward and Ribery.
The French winger has assisted Lewandowski twice via crosses from the wing. It'll be exciting to see what happens when the rest of Bayern's World Cup contingent returns from vacation. Götze and Lewy will reignite the spark they had back in Dortmund. Robben's speed and trickery will benefit Lewandowski, who will be able to cause trouble in the box while Arjen Robben does his magic.
Although Mario Mandzukic was no slouch, Robert Lewandowski will offer many more dimensions in attack. Robert can function as a target man, as Mandzukic did, with better movement on the pitch, and with more willingness to play outside the box. Robert also possess much more skill with ball, as was seen by his lovely chip goal inside the box last week. His chemistry with Ribery will make this Bayern team even more formidable than the last.
