Chris Eubank Jr is aged just 24 seems to be a very talented young boxer but is he being progressed correctly?
Eubank Jr is of course the son of the widely famous and enigmatic Chris Eubank who was involved in some great rivalries with the likes of Nigel Benn, Michael Watson and Steve Collins.
With a record now standing at 17-0 Eubank has shown glimpses of real talent and last weekend on the undercard of his rival Billy Joe Saunders' European title fight, seemed to be more determined to showcase his ability.
He faced off with Croatian Ivan Jukic at the Phones 4 U Arena in Manchester. The southpaw came into the contest with a decent record of 19 wins and two losses but he wasn't expected to provide a serious test to Eubank.
Eubank normally spends far too much time posing in the ring and often doesn't have a high enough work rate. It is extremely frustrating because he will show glimpses of absolute class but then do nothing for most of the round.
This time a different Chris Eubank Jr turned up as he looked to pile the pressure on immediately and blew away his opponent in the first round.
This is the sort of performance that is expected from him as his talent is clear and he hasn't been matched with the best opponents so far in his professional career.
A combination of his skills and the level of opponents he has faced should have made for more impressive performances from Eubank but he seems far too concerned with creating a character for himself.
Following the fight during his interview Eubank Jr confirmed that he is ready for the step and that he wants to fight people like Billy Joe Saunders, Spike O'Sullivan, Frank Buglioni.
These are the fights that the boxing community want to see and Eubank Jr even said that he would fight them month after month. This is clearly bravado as there is no way that such risks would be taken.
Eubank Sr then stepped in and came out with a comment which seems absurd at this stage. To say that his son will become a better fighter then the seemingly unbeatable Floyd Mayweather Jr despite his son having fought no-one of note.
“This man’s [Eubank Jr] going to be better than Floyd Mayweather Jr. He’s going to change the game," he interjected.
The rivalry that has been building up with Billy Joe Saunders hit boiling point at the weekend with Saunders calling out Eubank Jr using expletives. This should be a top fight between two very talented young boxers.
Eubank Jr is a skilled young fighter but now has to be the time to step-up the level of his opponent.
