Football News

Another week in the WWE is in the books as we edge closet to the WWE SummerSlam event which takes place on August 17 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California where John Cena will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Brock Lesnar.

So as expected with the event just weeks away, more news continues to be released from the world of the WWE with a release, one new signing, a potential movie role for a champion and rumoured backstage heat on a former WWE Champion all feature in this week’s news.

This article will contain potential spoilers, if you wish to avoid these; please turn back now.

Ricardo Rodriguez released

Alberto Del Rio’s former ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez has been released by the WWE. He revealed on his Twitter account that he and the WWE came to terms with his release as he missed wrestling. Rodriguez is usually doing work on the Spanish commentary team for the pay-per-views and wrestled under a mask as El Local in NXT.

Paige taunts AJ Lee

As their feud continues ever since her heel turn, Paige was spotted taunted AJ Lee during a match between the pair at the house show in Oklahoma City.

As AJ Lee was getting up, Paige decided to signal for the Go To Sleep; the same CM Punk used to do before hitting his finishing manoeuvre.

Xavier Woods receiving backstage praise

The writers and backstage personnel working with Xavier Woods as he forms his new stable with Kofi Kingston and Big E. The talk backstage is that they are extremely impressed with the way he is delivering his heel promos in practice, it’s great to see something fresh for Woods as it looked as if he won’t be going in any direction, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Original plans for Sheamus

It has been reported that Sheamus could be in line to play Darth Vader in J.J. Abrams film Star Wars Episode VII; he teased the role on Twitter after an Irish newspaper reported on the story.
Sheamus wasn’t a part of Raw or SmackDown because he was suffering from the flu, the original plans surrounding the United States Champion were to have a Sheamus vs. Rusev feud for the gold, so much so that there were backstage rumours that Rusev would capture the United States Championship to draw even more heat to their anti-American gimmick going into SummerSlam.

Fergal Devitt signs with the WWE

As reported earlier in the week, the WWE snapped up Irish superstar Fergal Devitt to a contract which will see him compete in the NXT division. He has already reported to the Performance Center and it remains to be seen just how long he requires to adapt his style before making his first official NXT appearance.

Kevin Steen could be on his way

As we reported earlier in the week, Monday Night Raw commentator Jerry Lawler teased that Kevin Steen could be making a ‘big jump’ to the WWE after their Piledriver match over the weekend. Kevin Steen has been a long-term target for the WWE and it is expected that he will undergo his medicals and sign the contract if and when he passes.

Backstage heat on Randy Orton

There is talk backstage that there is heat on Randy Orton as well as Ric Flair. The case with Randy Orton is that he has a style which ‘kills the crowd’, meaning he prefers slow paced action with a big manoeuvre here and there and it looks as if backstage personnel believes it bores the fans, most notable in his recent matches with Roman Reigns. It is unfair as the two seem to have great chemistry in the ring.

Ric Flair has heat on him because he has been working as a referee in their recent matches at the house shows, and it’s being said that he has been too slow to react to pin falls and doesn’t stay close to action, he hangs on the ropes far too often. It remains to be seen whether Ric Flair will play any role in the Roman Reigns and Randy Orton match or whether it was just for the house show crowds.
