Football News

The 2015 World Cup will be a great tournament for the country and the nations taking part, but for England it will be a momentous occasion especially for the players fighting for a place in Stuart Lancaster's team.

Many players have staked a claim for representing England in 2015, but when it comes to having a chance to play for their country on the biggest stage, who will make the shortlist?

World Cup

England are the hosts of the 2015 IRB World Cup and have been drawn in the pool of death alongside 2003 finalists Australia, Fiji, Wales, and a play-off winner which is still yet to be decided.

With the group England have been drawn, Lancaster needs to make the right decisions in the players he trusts can win games, considering they just missed out on the Six Nations title to Ireland earlier this year and recently losing to New Zealand in a test series.

Top five

But with the repetitive line-up Lancaster chooses he has experimented recently giving plenty of players a chance to shine, so with this in mind who has a big point to prove heading into the new season, and which five players are in contention of making the 2015 team?

The players in this list faced a difficult season last year due to injury, or just getting back to the routine of the Aviva Premiership, but if they display their talents it could work well in their favour, as long as injury doesn't become an issue.
