Arsenal crush Benfica in Emirates Cup

Arsenal won the first game of the Emirates Cup against Portuguese league champions Benfica 5-1, which saw debut appearances from new signings Calum Chambers and Alexis Sanchez.

Arsenal took the league in the 22nd minute when Aaron Ramsey span away from 2 Benfica defenders to deliver a low cross into Yaya Sanogo and the Frenchman flicked the ball past the keeper to score his first unofficial goal for the club. Sanogo was at the heart of Arsenal’s second goal when Sanogo combined nicely with Arsenal youth player Hector Bellerin, who crossed the ball to Costa Rica star Joel Campbell who volleyed home the ball into the bottom corner of the net in the 39th minute to make it 2-0.

Arsenal scored two goals within the space of a minute. Ramsey chipped the ball into an unmarked Campbell who laid the ball to Sanogo who poked home the ball into an empty net. Sanogo completed his hat-trick when he forced his way into the penalty box to meet Kieran Gibbs’ good cross and the Frenchman hooked the ball beyond Artur to make it 4-0 at the end of the first half.

Star of the show 

Four minutes into the second half Yaya Sanogo scored his fourth goal after Arthur failed to parry away an Aaron Ramsey shot and Sanogo picked up on the lose ball and tapped it in to make it 5-0 in under 50 minutes. Benfica scored a constellation goal as Nico Gaitan headed home a close range following a set-piece to give the visitors some hope.

Arsenal's new signing Alexis Sanchez came on in the 73rd minute and his presence was imminent. The winger was dribbling pass players and playing in some great crosses however nothing came of the Chilean.
