The potential signing of Carvalho would certainly represent a major coup for the Gunners, as Arsene Wenger continues rebuilding his squad. The north London outfit have already been extremely busy this summer, having signed the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers, Mathieu Debuchy and David Ospina.

Carvalho would certainly fit in at the Emirates, with the club in need of a physical presence in the middle of the park. The likes of Jack Wilshere, Thomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey will all be fighting it out for a first team place next term, but Carvalho  would hand Wenger another option heading into the new season.

Manchester United interest

Manchester United, meanwhile, have been linked with the youngster for some time now, as new boss Louis van Gaal looks to improve his squad after a disastrous season under David Moyes last time out.

The Red Devils have already landed Spanish ace Ander Herrera from Bilbao, but it remains to be seen as to whether the club further add to their option in midfield ahead of this month's big Premier League kick-off.
