Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu has joined Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart on loan for the 2014/15 season.

As reported by the Metro, it appears that the midfielder, who only signed a new deal with the Stamford Bridge outfit last month, will now star in Germany's elite division next term, as he continues his development.

It had previously appeared, however, that after the 22-year-old signed an extended deal at the Bridge, he would be part of Mourinho's plans for the up coming season. It now seems likely, though, that he will have to wait before getting his opportunity at becoming a first-team regular under the 'Special One'.

Regarding Romeu's switch to the Bundesliga, Chelsea released this statement: ‘Oriol Romeu has today [Monday] joined Stuttgart on a season-long loan.

‘The midfielder, 22, who recently signed a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge, heads to the German top flight.’

Romeu now, then, will be hoping to make a major impact away from the Bridge next term, having starred at La Liga outfit Valencia in the 2013/14 season.

Mourinho, meanwhile, will be focussing on his side for the up coming season, as the Blues look to challenge for silverware in 2014/15. Despite the absence of Romeu, Chelsea still have an array of talent in the middle of the park, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas starring at Stamford Bridge.

Spanish international Fabregas, of course, completed his move to Chelsea from Barcelona earlier this summer, and will be competing for places with the likes of Ramires and Nemanja Matic next term.

After last season's disappointing third place finish, Mourinho will be determined to land the title this term. The 'Special One' has certainly stamped his mark on his side this summer, having signed a number of stars.

As well as Fabregas, the likes of Diego Costa, Didier Drogba and Filipe Luis have all arrived at the club, while highly rated goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has returned to the Bridge following his stint at La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

Mourinho hasn't been afraid to get rid of a number of high profile names, including the likes of Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard and David Luiz. The likes of Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o have also left the club, as Mourinho's new look Chelsea side comes together.
