Manchester United want to sign Juan Cuadrado before the start of the new season, according to The Express.
The same report has suggested that the United hierarchy are ready to secure the signature of the £30 million rated star by offering him a lucrative long-term deal with the club.
It appears, then, that Manchester United are in pole position to land the highly rated Colombian star, despite interest from other clubs. United's Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool have both been credited with interest in the player's signature.
The report has suggested, though, that with Arsenal and Liverpool having already splashed the cash in this window, they may not be willing to meet the asking price for the player.
Spanish giants Barcelona, meanwhile, also appear to be interested in the World Cup star, but the same report from The Express has suggested that the Catalan giants would have to offload Dani Alves before landing the Colombian ace.
The same report has also suggested that Van Gaal has hinted that Cuadrado could be on his radar, with the Dutchman insisting that he couldn't talk about the player because his price would rise.
Speaking to journalists after Manchester United beat Liverpool 3-1 in the US, Van Gaal said: "I cannot talk about Cuadrado, because if I say something about him the price will rise."
It remains to be seen as to whether Manchester United can tie up a deal to bring the Colombian ace to Old Trafford in the coming days, but Red Devils fans will certainly be hoping the club further invest in the squad after last season's disastrous campaign under David Moyes.
United have already secured two signatures for the first-team in this window, having signed Spanish ace Ander Herrera and teenager Luke Shaw. Both players will certainly help United in the up coming season, with Herrera set to play a key role in the middle of the park next term.
Shaw, meanwhile, looks set to compete with Ashley Young for the left-wing back position at the club, with the former Aston Villla man having impressed throughout pre-season. United fans will certainly be hoping for at least another couple of additions, and the signing of Cuadrado would certainly prove a major coup for the club.
