Lewis Hamilton praises Daniel Ricciardo

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has praised Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, calling him one of the best on the grid.

Speaking to the BBC Hamilton said: "He's been driving fantastically well from the beginning of the year. He's shown his capability and is going from strength to strength. He's not only one of the nicest guys in the paddock, but also one of the best drivers here, for sure."

Riccardo moves to Red Bull

Ricardo made the switch from Toro Rosso to Red Bull after Mark Webber retired from Formula 1.

So far this season, the BBC report that Ricciardo has out qualified former German World Champion Sebastian Vettel 7-4. Ricciardo has also finished ahead of teammate Vettel six out of the seven races that they have both finished.

Ricciardo has to far this season got five podium finishes, two of these being wins and three of these being third place.

The Australian has also not finished out of the top ten in a race that he has finished so far this season, his lowest position being eighth. 

Mercedes dominate

So far both Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg and Hamilton head up the drivers championship, with Hamilton being nine points behind his German team mate.

As a result of this, Mercedes also lead the Constructors Championship. Mercedes currently stand on 393 points at the top, with Red Bull being 174 points behind on 219.

The next race takes place in August at Spa in Belgium.
