WWE: 'Major role' for CM Punk in WWE 2K15 confirmed by company

Football News

CM Punk is no longer a wrestler in the WWE after his contract expired at the end of July, but that won't stop wrestling fans being able to select the exiled superstar in the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game.

There had been suggestions that the latest instalment of the popular game would be bereft of the Chicago native what with his unceremonious prolonged exit from the WWE this year.

Major Role

But the game's developers, 2K, have today confirmed that not only will CM Punk be a character in the game, but that he will have a huge role in the 'Showcase' story mode with fans able to re-live the epic rivalry between CM Punk and John Cena.

"No fan can deny the fierce competition marking the notorious battles wages between Cena and Punk, and 2K Showcase enables fans to take part in those memorable experiences," explained 2K's Vice President of Marketing, Chris Snyder.

Punk's WWE exit

CM Punk hasn't wrestled in the WWE since the day after Royal Rumble way back in January, and after several months of intense speculation concerning his position in the company, the WWE and Punk officially parted ways in July when his contract was allowed to expire.

Since then many wrestlers have had their say on the reasons for Punk's exit with various former and current superstars citing fatigue, anger at the WWE's direction, and injuries in assessing the recent activity.

Both CM Punk and Vince McMahon however have remained fairly subdued on the subject and that led many to suggest that the split was far from amicable. This in turn led fans to doubt whether their favorite star would be used in a video game carrying the organization's name.

Thankfully we now know CM Punk will join the long list of former WWE Superstars to take their place as characters from the past that can be brought back into the ring courtesy of the 2K series.
