Premier League predictions 2014/15; Man City to lift the trophy?

Football News

The long wait for the start of the 2014/2015 football season is over as this weekend, across all Europe’s major leagues, games will be played.

In England, it can hardly be argued that this isn't the most anticipated season in recent times as all teams are evenly poised to compete for the title. Cash has been splashed in a very busy transfer period, with teams strengthening their squads with new players and in some cases new managers.

The deals so far

Big summer transfers include Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea, Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal, Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera to Manchester United. Even perceived smaller teams splashed the cash, with West Ham doling out £12 million on Enner Valencia from Pachuca, and Burnley making seven signings.

What to expect

No one saw the 3-0 hammering of title holders Manchester City by Arsenal in the Charity Shield coming, perhaps offering a teaser of what the season holds. There was also a lot of movement among Premier League clubs and Chelsea fans will definitely look away when they face Manchester City at the Etihad on September 20, when Frank Lampard puts on the sky blue jersey.

The arrival of a certain Louis van Gaal has definitely put the spring back in the stride at Old Trafford after a disastrous outing last term.

I can only join millions of fans across the world in sitting back and enjoying this festival of exciting football. I also tip three Premier league new boys to shine and two players to watch out for.

The predictions

New boys: Diego Costa, Eliaquim Mangala and Alexis Sanchez

Surprise team of the season: Manchester United; Watch Van Gaal work his magic

Opening day predictions: Big wins for Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Draw for Manchester City against Newcastle at St. James' Park.

Golden boot: Diego Costa

Winners of the Premier League: Manchester City
