Manchester United must complete triple transfer swoop

With the Premier League season just a couple of days away, Manchester United fans will be worried that the club have only signed two first-team stars.

Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw have arrived, but they certainly won't be enough for the Red Devils to contend for the Premier League title. United fans will, then, be excited by recent comments from Mexican journalist Willi Gonzalez, who has suggested that the Red Devils are on the verge of signing Arturo Vidal, Daley Blind and Juan Cuadrado.

Key positions

Vidal, of course, has been linked with a move to the Red Devils for some time, and the Chilean is the player the fans really want to see arrive at Old Trafford in this window. After all, he's the marquee name they crave, and he could finally solve the problems the club have endured in the middle of the park in recent time.

The signing of Herrera will help the club, but he won't be enough. Darren Fletcher looks revitalised in pre-season, but it's still early days for the Scotsman. Michael Carrick, meanwhile, who has been United's standout midfielder over the last few season, is out with a long term injury, so the Vidal signing could be crucial for the club.

Blind, on the other hand, may not be of the same calibre of Vidal, but he could still play a key role at United of Van Gaal can land him. The Dutch star certainly proved his credentials at the World Cup, and his versatility would do wonders for United as the club embark upon a new system. Blind would be trusted at left-wing back, centre-back and defensive-midfield, so Van Gaal must secure his services.

Cuadrado, then, could be the missing piece of the jigsaw for the new United boss. The Colombian ace, who like Blind starred this summer, wouldn't come cheap, but he's offer United great quality down the right hand side of the pitch. He's perfect for Van Gaal's system, too. With fine attributes in attack and in defence, Cuadrado would enjoy success under United's Dutch boss.

Can't do it without them

There's no doubt about it, Manchester United's form in pre-season has been fantastic. Victories over the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid, Valencia and Co. have raised the spirits at the Theatre of Dreams, but that doesn't mean the club are ready to claim back the Premier League title.

United's squad is certainly no where near the standard required to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea. Louis van Gaal will hand some of United's players a new lease of life, but are they really good enough to do the business?

Fans of the Red Devils know that improvements must still be made - Vidal, Blind and Cuadrado could help the club return to the summit in 2014/15, but United must pull off the deals first.

Manchester United fans: Do you think your club can compete for the title without anymore signings? How many more players do you think Van Gaal should sign in this transfer window? Have your say below!
