Football News

As you will have probably seen a lot, Alberto Del Rio was fired by the WWE after an altercation with a member of the company's media team.

Bye Bye Alberto

According to reports, Del Rio - real name Alberto Rodriguez - hit WWE's social media manager Cody Barbierri after Barbierri made a pretty derisory joke about Del Rio's Mexican nationality and him being kitchen staff.

Well Del Rio was fired after striking the victim - only after Barbierri threatened legal action if you believe some articles - and could be set to join a Mexican wrestling company.

In a pretty big turn of events, some wreslters and WWE employees - who have remained anonymous - actually came out and defended Del Rio while attacking Barbierri.

Arrogant Jerkoff

From Wrestlinginc.com:

"Some of the wrestlers were sympathetic to Alberto Del Rio after he was fired by WWE.

Regarding the WWE employee that Del Rio assaulted, Cody Barbierri, one person told The Wrestling Observer that he was a "jerkoff who was very arrogant," but said he was intelligent and his attitude had flown under the radar of WWE officials.

Another source noted to the newsletter that Barbierri had a few situations while on the road with WWE over the past year and he had a reputation for talking down to wrestlers.

However, Barbierri has had the backing of Stephanie McMahon and has been a key player in WWE's media department."

No Surprise

It really doesn't come as a surprise that Del Rio was fired to be honest. The 37-year old was earning a pretty big salary in the WWE, definitely in the Top 10 highest paid wrestlers in the company.

And with Vince McMahon looking to save as much money as possible, the company will be taking anything they can in order to get money like Del Rio's off the wage budget. The fact that Del Rio has been injury prone and dropped out of stardom after being World Champion a few years back mean it was always going to end that way for Alberto.
