Football News

It's official: Nicklas Bendtner has joined Wolfsburg. In remembrance of the striker's turbulent Premier League career here are some memories to cherish (actually, in all honestly mostly not). "Lord Bendtner" was, by the end an ironic cult figure among Arsenal fans, mainly for the sheer absurdity of his confident streak and off-field antics to match.

10: Nightclub Antics

After a while Bendtner's actions off the pitch were more interesting than those on it. After Arsenal were dumped out of Europe, Bendtner was once escorted from London nightclub Boujis at 4am with his trousers falling down, a paparazzi's dream, or worst nightmare perhaps.

9: Juventus Loan

A while into his Arsenal career was clearly not good enough to lead the line evert week and was loaned out. The surprise was that, rather than being loaned to a Championship club, he was loaned out to Italian giants Juventus. Bendtner did not score a goal for Juve thanks to a combination of knee injury and drink-driving, but that didn't stop him celebrating the Serie A success like a key member of the squad.

8: The late goal against Cardiff

Bendtner did actually make a highly important contribution for Arsenal last season: a game-winner against Cardiff City. He was, some could say, in the right place in the right time, and buried the chance after coming on as a substitute late on. In typical Bendtner fashion his hero status was cut short though, with an ankle injury suffered as he landed awkwardly as the ball hit the back of net, quickly subbed off and never seen again in an Arsenal shirt.

7: Controversial Underwear Celebration

At Euro 2012, after netting a brace, Bendtner did something that resulted in a one-match ban and an £80,000. However, it was pulling his shorts down in celebration. A typical Bendtner move, one might say.

6: The most arrogant quote in history?

Bendtner has delighted us with some unbelievable quotes before, but this is probably his finest, and was a source of much amusement.

"I want to be top scorer in the Premier League, top scorer at the world cup and, within five years, I want to be among the best strikers in the world. Trust me, it will happen."

Sadly not.

5: The stunner vs Blackburn

Bendtner did actually score a brilliant goal in his career: against Blackburn. The long range thunderbolt come at the end of this video.

4: Genital rubbing

Perhaps the strangest of all these memories: in Copenhagen Bendtner was punished for drunkenly threatening a man in a car, before removing his trousers and rubbing his genitals against the car, leaving the occupant terrified.

3: Blocked shot vs Liverpool

A truly unfortunate moment. Cesc Fabregas had shot towards an open goal, but Bendtner brilliantly cleared it off the line.

2: First touch goal vs Tottenham

This, at least, is a fond memory. During the North London derby, Bendtner came off the bench before a corner, without a Premier League goal to his name. The corner came in, and Bendtner scored with his first touch! Watch it here!

1: The miss vs Barcelona

This may not be the worst moment of Bendtner's career, but it's certainly the most infamous! After a wonderful pass from Jack Wilshere, Bendtner was left with a one on one situation at a crucial time against Barcelona. Could he score? No, he couldn't.
