Football News

In recent years, many players from Chelsea's youth teams have not made the step up into first team football at Stamford Bridge, with many players being sold on or loaned out.

But could the upcoming season be a chance for some members to stake a real claim for the first team?

Here, we look at six players that could make it into Jose Mourinho's first team.

Notable absentees: John Swift, Patrick Bamford, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

5. Dom Solanke

Despite only being 16, young striker Solanke has been touted for big things. In the earlier stages of pre-season, Solanke played parts in some of Chelsea friendlies and impressed Jose Mourinho. He has also impressed members of the England youth set-up.

4. Isaiah Brown

Similarly to Solanke, Brown has been touted as a star for the future. Before signing for Chelsea in the summer of 2013, Brown made his Premier League debut for West Brom at the age of 16 years and 117 days.

In pre-season, Brown scored twice for Chelsea in a 5-0 friendly win over Wycombe Wanderers. Could he be in with a shout of first-team football soon?

3. Jeremie Boga

Young Frenchman Boga has been in fine form for Chelsea throughout his stint in the first team during pre-season, where he scored a great solo goal against RZ Pellets to earn Chelsea a draw.

2. Lewis Baker

Chelsea's Young Player of the Year Baker is another youngster that could make his mark in the first team. Baker has come through the ranks at Chelsea and could be a potential star.

In January 2014, Baker made his first team debut in the FA Cup against Derby. After scoring a great goal for the U21 squad, Baker was also awarded the Chelsea Goal of the Year gong for the 13/14 season.

1. Nathan Ake AND Andreas Christiansen

Both Ake and Christiansen are part of the Chelsea first team for the upcoming season. With Ake being given the number six shirt, could this season be his chance to breakthrough?

What do you think? Will any of these players make their impact in the first team during the upcoming season or will they be loaned out and inevitably sold? Comment below..
