Arsenal are odds-on favourites to sign midfielder Sami Khedira from Real Madrid this summer.

Sky Bet have shortened their price on the player leaving the Spanish capital for north London before the close of the transfer window on September 2nd, with 4/5 the price now available to punters.

Madrid exit expected

Khedira has been heavily linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu following an impressive showing at the World Cup, but with just a fortnight left in the window he remains a squad player under Carlo Ancelotti.

However, the bookmakers clearly believe that the Germany international - who helped his country win the World Cup this summer - could be on the way to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has already made significant additions to his squad at the Emirates Stadium this summer, bringing Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy into the Gunners’ first team squad.

The strength-in-depth makes Arsenal legitimate contenders for more silverware this season, and they will be heartened by the discount £8million price-tag currently placed on his head.

Blues interest

Other teams are interested in signing the player though, with Chelsea one of the clubs to be linked.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has managed the player previously during his time in Spain, and is another to have strengthened his squad already this summer.

Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Felipe Luis have all arrived at Stamford Bridge, whilst Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has returned for a second stint.

Challenge from abroad

Khedira would add further strength to the midfield in west London, but competition also comes from abroad with reports claiming Bayern Munich are also interested.

They are priced at 5/2, just ahead of Chelsea at 3/1; but it appears that Arsenal are the ones to catch in this particular transfer race.
