Manchester City face Newcastle United in the first stage of the defence of their Premier League title, and will do so with star centre-forward Sergio Aguero on the bench.

Manuel Pellegrini does not believe the Argentina international is fit enough to start a competitive match after his exerts at the World Cup in Brazil, where he and his team made the final - the same goes for compatriot Pablo Zabaleta.

However, Joe Hart is given a reprieve after being dropped for summer signing Willy Caballero in the Community Shield last weekend. England's number one is brought back into the side to face Alan Pardew's men.

Newcastle have four new signings on show at St James' Park in the form of Daryl Janmaat, Jack Colback, Remy Cabella and Emmanuel Riviere. It has been a tumultuous summer for the Toon after a very poor second half to last season, but Pardew has been backed in the transfer market and will be hoping to reverse the intense criticism he and his side received last term.
