Brock Lesnar was crowned the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion when he destroyed John Cena at SummerSlam.
Conquering the streak and John Cena
Lesnar managed to hit an incredible 16 suplex’ on John Cena in what was a one sided battle and now attentions have turned to WrestleMania 31 as many expect The Beast Incarnate to carry the WWE World Heavyweight Championship until WrestleMania which takes place in Santa Clara, California.
However not everything is going as smoothly backstage, sure everything is going to plan right now inside the ring but behind the curtains there have been reports emerging over the past 24 hours that the chairman of the WWE Vince McMahon and his son-in-law; the Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative for the WWE, Triple H.
- WWE: Who are Vince McMahon's favourite superstars?
- The Rock: Potential WrestleMania opponents
- WWE: 5 Roman Reigns feuds that need to happen
Both men wanted Brock Lesnar to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, especially since he ended The Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania XXX.
However Vince and Triple H are at odds over the main event of WrestleMania 31, they both want two different superstars competing against Brock Lesnar.
It’s not just two random names they’re backing, in fact they both have a strong case and either man could put up a great effort in the main event and possibly defeat Brock Lesnar.
It’s between two family members, as the chairman Vince McMahon is calling for a main event match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship between Brock Lesnar and The Rock.
The Rock last competed at WrestleMania 29, where he relinquished the WWE Championship to John Cena before continuing with his Hollywood career. The Rock later revealed that at WrestleMania XXX he was supposed to be in a match against Brock Lesnar, which was to be a rematch from SummerSlam 2002 when Brock Lesnar defeated The Rock.
But The Rock opted not to work the event and Brock Lesnar went on to end The Undertaker’s streak and is now the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. If Vince gets his way then the rematch would take place in California next year.
Triple H believes in Roman Reigns
However, Triple H isn’t so fond of The Rock challenging Brock Lesnar; instead he believes in Roman Reigns and believes he should be the man to challenge Brock Lesnar.
Triple H believes Roman Reigns deserves that spot after he has impressed during his run in The Shield as well as a singles superstar; where he defeated Randy Orton at SummerSlam. The rumoured plan for Roman Reigns is now to go on and face Triple H at the Night of Champions pay-per-view on September 21.
Judging by the disagreements, it looks as if Brock Lesnar is set to remain as WWE World Heavyweight Champion until March of next year which may not sit well with fans.
If the fans don’t want Brock Lesnar as WWE World Heavyweight Champion due to him being a part-timer then the same fans should be hoping for a Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar match. So a full-time star in Reigns could take the gold and become the number one star in the company.
What is the better option?
I would have to agree with Triple H this time, I think Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar would make more sense if they are to build for the future, a Reigns win opens more doors for future brilliant feuds and matches such as former partners Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose as well as other stars such as Bray Wyatt.
I agree, The Rock will sell more tickets but it’s the whole part-timer argument popping up again; as well as the fact that the actual wrestling between The Rock and Brock Lesnar won’t be great, Reigns still has months to polish off his in-ring and microphone skills; Reigns vs. Lesnar is the better option.
WWE fans – what do you think? Do you agree with Vince and choose The Rock? Or do you agree with Triple H and say Roman Reigns should take on Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31? Let us know in the comments section below.
