Tottenham Hotspur are set for a surprise move for Sevilla FC centre back Federico Fazio, according to the Daily Mail. It's said that Spurs are willing to meet the centre-back's €10 million buy-out clause in order to see the deal through.

The 27-year-old Argentinian international is thought to have been targeted by Spurs after a £17 million move for fellow national compatriot, Mateo Musacchio, stalled in it's final stages.

Move for Fazio

Fazio, who has been at Sevilla since 2007, competed in 29 games for the Europa League champions last season. He most recently featured as Sevilla were beaten by Real Madrid 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup final.

The move for Fazio would seemingly spell the end for several of Tottenham's defensive men. In particular, moves away from White Hart Lane now seem probable for the likes of Michael Dawson and Vlad Chiriches.

Dawson, who has struggled to adapt to Tottenham's high line system, has been linked with the likes of Hull City and QPR in the past. Chiriches, on the other hand, is set for a move away from the Premier League entirely. It's been said frequently that the Romanian centre back is a target for Italian giants, Roma.

Should Tottenham sign Fazio, he would become the club's fifth signing of the season after Ben Davies and Michel Vorm from Swansea, Eric Dier from Sporting Lisbon and DeAndre Yedlin from Seattle Sounders.

The club are also still said to be interested in a deal to bring World Cup star Memphis Depay to the Premier League before the window closes. According to reports, he has recently rejected a new contract offer from his current side, PSV Eindhoven.
