Liverpool are still hoping to clinch the signature of former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, despite the impending arrival of AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli.

The Reds initially opened talks with free-transfer Samuel Eto’o last week about a shock switch to Anfield, with manager Brendan Rodgers looking for new strikers to fill the void left by Luis Suarez.

And despite the fact that they’re closing in on Milan’s Balotelli, Sky Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio reports that a move for Eto’o is close with both expected the join the club imminently.

It’s thought that initially Rodgers had some concerns about Eto’o’s fitness, however those inital thoughts have now been dismissed, and all parties are pushing for the agreement to happen.

Fresh reports

Di Marzio claims that there have been fresh negotiations between Liverpool and the Eto'o's agents over the past couple of days, and after Ajax pulled out of the race yesterday because Eto'o failed to turn up to a meeting, a deal could be sealed soon.

The signings of Eto'o and Balotelli would leave Rodgers with five attacking options, and you'd think would be the last attacker that will be joining Anfield.
