Real Madrid midfield maestro Angel di Maria wants to force through a move to Manchester United and has already been in touch with Argentine team-mate Marcos Rojo to make it clear he wants to join him at Old Trafford.

That was the headline news revealed by Radio Marca's Anton Meana last night, who believes Di Maria quickly made contact with Rojo after his £16 million move to Old Trafford with a view to gaining some insider knowledge on a club who have chased him for more than a month.

Radio Marca meltdown

Man United's pursuit of Di Maria has developed over the last 24 hours, after Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti decided to leave the want-away winger out of his squad for the Spanish Supercup decider against Atletico Madrid.

Di Maria has lodged a transfer request because despite being arguably Real Madrid's best player during the second half of last season his position has effectively been taken before the new campaign begins, thanks to summer moves for World Cup superstar duo Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.

Rojo ready to get involved

United manager Louis van Gaal has already moved for one Argentine international in the last fortnight of the transfer window, but to make Di Maria his fourth major summer signing it would take a club-record bid of £56m.

Rojo has reportedly encouraged Di Maria to forsake Champions League football for a season to become Man United's new midfield talisman, with his input surely only strengthening United's chances of getting this deal over the line ahead of main rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
