Atletico Madrid have been placed as the clear favourites to conclude a deal for Marco Reus before the transfer deadline, despite the Borussia Dortmund player having been linked extensively with Arsenal and Liverpool.

Odds on

Sky Bet have the prospect of Reus joining Atletico at 3/1-on with Liverpool a distant second at 7/2, and Arsenal even further back with odds of 5/1 - which still places the Gunners ahead of Barcelona and Manchester United.

There has been speculation that Reus has rejected the offer of a new contract from Borussia Dortmund, which has led to renewed links with a transfer away from the club to either La Liga or the Premier League.

It had been reported in the Spanish press that Reus had agreed a transfer to the Vicente Calderon, although this assertion was dismissed by Atletico themselves who claimed there was no interest in the Germany international.

Plenty of interest

Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Reus, who has scored 42 goals in two seasons with BVB, and there have been claims that Arsene Wenger held a meeting with the 25-year-old earlier this summer regarding a proposed move to the Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have also been mentioned as potential suitors for the 25-year-old, although the arrival at Mario Balotelli may end their successful summer in the transfer market.

However, it would be foolish rule out any Liverpool approach for Reus given that the club will sign Balotelli after Brendan Rodgers had previously “categorically” ruled out a move for the controversial Italian.

Dortmund, though, have maintained that Reus, valued at £28 million, will not be leaving the club this summer, although the most recent comments from CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke appear to suggest something could be done in the next couple of weeks.
