Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Angel di Maria has said goodbye to his team-mates ahead of his £60 million move to Manchester United.

The Argentinian is about to become Manchester United's most expensive player of all time, and is expected to complete his move shortly having agreed a £180,000-per-week contract.

Although Ancelotti didn't go as far as to say that the Argentinian international was on his way to Old Trafford, he did confirm that he has said goodbye to his team-mates ahead of his transfer.

"He came in, but this morning he did not train," he said. "It is not fully done, but he is close to a transfer.

"He came to say goodbye. We thanked him for what he has done for this team and we wished him luck for the future. It is not official, but it is resolved."

Ancelotti was keen to keep Di Maria at the Bernabeu but has admitted defeat in that particular battle after revealing that the Argentinian had handed in a transfer request earlier this week.

The former Chelsea manager's loss is Manchester United's gain however as they look to overhaul their squad this summer to avoid a repeat of their disastrous campaign last time round. He will join the likes of Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo to sign on the dotted line this summer - and there should be some more new faces before deadline day.

New arrivals

Ajax utility man Daley Blind looks likely to make the move to Manchester United before the close of the window as Van Gaal looks to add more options in defence.

After a frustrating summer in which he has missed out on a host of top targets, Van Gaal will be relieved to land the big-name player he so desperately craved, and now his full attention will be on getting maximum points against Sunderland after they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Swansea last weekend.
