Football News

Manny Pacquiao is a man with a seemingly endless list of talents.

The Filipino is of course best known for his legendary boxing career - the 35-year-old veteran holding a 56-5-2 record as well as the admiration of almost all those involved in the sport.

But outside of the boxing ring Pacquiao, in recent times, has taken his talents into a number of varying avenues - from politics to movies, and singing to business ventures Pacquiao is the definition of a multi-talented individual.

But now, according to several report, we can add basketball star to that ever expanding list.

As reported by the US magazines Time and Sports Illustrated 'Pacman' was selected in the Philippine Basketnall Association's annual draft by the Kia Motors. What is more, the diminutive 5ft 6.5 inch superstar was taken in the first round no less.

Selected with the number 11 pick Pacquaio also took the honor as the oldest ever rookie to be selected in the PBA draft.

The fact that Pacquaio has been the coach of the Kia Motors franchise since June of this year we feel have had something to do with the unusual decision.

Man of many talents

When he isn't boxing, singing, acting, or now apparently shooting hoops, Pacquiao has carved out a successful career in politics in his native Philippines.

Recently re-elected for a third term as a Congressman Manny Pacquiao has been able to do what his great boxing rival Floyd Mayweather continues to struggle with - become a true man of the people as he bids to use his sporting icon status to good use as his boxing career slowly winds up.

That hasn't put pay to his sporting exploits however. With an upcoming bout against Chris Algieri this November the boxing great will have to somehow juggle politics and boxing alongside pursuing his basketball dream.

The World Welterweight champion is certainly not one to rest easy that is for sure.

 Basketball ready?

Manny Pacquiao's physique is as such perfectly suited to the boxing ring. His small size and power have helped make him one of the most feared opponents of recent times.

Unfortunately for the boxer/politician (and the Kia Motors themselves) such characteristics are not usually atop the list of 'must haves' for basketball scouts these days.

The Filipino franchise will not be Pacquiao's first team however with the boxer having gained honorary status with the Boston Celtics back in 2010.

Those in charge of the famous NBA franchise however never went so far as to use a valuable draft pick on the star however.

But if there is anyone who can rise to the challenge, and coach the team to, then it is Manny Pacquiao and we for one cannot wait to see his first highlights reel.
