With the purchase of one player, £16 million man Mario Balotelli, Liverpool look set to push for the top once more.

Suddenly, the Reds become challengers again, and with such depth, Brendan Rodgers has a great amount of quality at his disposal moving forward.

Rodgers has brought quality all over the pitch; however no signings at Anfield seemed to be as big of a name this summer as that of Balotelli.

Questions over Liverpool line-up

Rodgers has brought in 10 new players to date, enough to field a full team in front of in-form Belgian keeper Simon Mignolet. The way that Rodgers chooses to line up his team this season will be crucial, but it seems that choosing any player he cannot go wrong moving forward.

Balotelli's arrival brings into question the following: How will the Reds line up this year? With the purchase of a striker, the defensive line should, in theory, remain unaltered at a traditional line of four. Whatever sits ahead of that line is a complete mystery going into the Merseyside squad's clash with Tottenham this weekend.

Balotelli will undoubtedly challenge Daniel Sturridge up front, with the two attackers likely to play alongside each other, or one ahead of the other, going into the campaign. With Raheem Sterling likely to occupy a wing, and new comer Adam Lallana likely to take another, that leaves two spots left in the squad's midfield- and Rodgers has an incredibly difficult decision to make as to who will claim it, with a big name midfield line-up.

The four likely contenders for these two spots are captain Steven Gerrard, who will almost undoubtedly claim one of the two on any regular day in the Premier League, Jordan Henderson, who has experienced promising form in recent weeks, Phillippe Coutinho, who always provides an injection of pace and skill to the team, and Joe Allen, who is a favourite of Rodgers', having come from his old club with the manager.

While analysts will criticize the issue until they're red in the face, the important fact to recognize is that no matter who Rodgers fields, his squad are likely to have an incredible season with the squad they have built this summer.
