Manchester United have opened talks with Netherlands International defender Daley Blind over a transfer to Old Trafford after a fee of £13.85 million was agreed.

Blind’s current club Ajax have withdrawn the player from the squad for their match this weekend against Groningen so that personal terms can be agreed with United.

Blind is a player Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal knows very well having using him in the Netherlands squad for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Summer of Change

If personal terms are agreed and a medical is completed then Blind, 24, will become United’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window. This summer United have spent £130 million including smashing the British transfer record for midfielder Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid. United have also signed Di Maria’s Argentina team-mate Marcos Rojo from Sporting Lisbon, along with England international full-back Luke Shaw form Southampton and Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.

United released a club statement today read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Ajax to sign Daley Blind, subject to a medical and personal terms. A further announcement will be made when the process is complete.”

Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of players, including Blind, this summer as manager Louis van Gaal attempts to get the Red Devils back into the Champions League. If Blind completes his move to Old Trafford then he will surely freshen up a weak defence who have conceded seven goals in all competitions so far this campaign, including an embarrassing 4-0 loss away to MK Dons in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
