Manchester United are preparing a final offer for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal in an attempt to sign him before the transfer window slams shut, reports Tuttosport.
Louis van Gaal has been linked with a move for the tough tackling star all summer, but only now, with hours left of the transfer window, is the Dutchman launching a definitive bid.
€50 million offer
The Italian newspaper says officials in Turin are preparing to hear from their Old Trafford counterparts with Manchester United ready to part with as much as €50 million to land Vidal. Such an offer would meet Juventus' asking price and should see the move develop a breakneck speed.
According to a number of reports, only a transfer fee is stopping Vidal becoming a Manchester United player. Vidal has provisionally agreed personal terms with the Premier League club and is set to move should Juventus give him permission.
There are even reports suggesting that Vidal has completed a vigorous medical with Old Trafford doctors to allay Van Gaal's fears over the 27-year-old's right knee. The Chile international had surgery on the knee earlier this summer but looked in fine form as Juventus beat Chievo on Sunday night.
TV scouting mission
In fact it may have been his imperious performance that convinced Van Gaal to make the move. The same report claims Van Gaal was watching the game last night, keeping a close eye on Vidal. Interestingly, Van Gaal was not believed to have been in Italy last night, which means the newspaper is claiming to know what he was watching on television, in his private home, on a Sunday night.
We are aware that everyone has their sources, but unless someone at Tuttosport has direct information from Mrs Van Gaal, we urge you to take that information with a pinch of salt.
Regardless, Van Gaal has already admitted he has an affinity towards Vidal, meaning he probably wouldn't need to watch him play against Chievo to decide whether or not to launch a €50 million offer.
Not leaving Juventus
Back in the real world, where quotes weigh more than rumours, Vidal has already stated that he is prepared to stay with Juventus. Not only is Vidal winning titles galore in Italy, he is also well settled in Turn.
He said: “At this point I do not go away, I stay at Juventus."
