The summer transfer window has only been closed for a matter of days, but rumours are already rife regarding potential deals that could be done in January, with AS Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman's desire to join Manchester United one of the biggest stories from the national newspapers on Saturday.

Louis van Gaal decided against a bid for his trusted Holland international last month, as the 24-year-old is still recovering from a long-term knee injury that consequently cost him a place in the Red Devils boss' World Cup squad for Brazil.

However, according to this latest report in the Daily Mirror, Van Gaal is ready to renew interest in Strootman at the turn of the year, and hopes to negotiate a £25 million transfer with the Serie 'A' giants that will see the player move to Old Trafford.

Strootman is doing all he can to prepare himself for a prospective switch to the Premier League giants, and has ditched his existing agent Chiel Dekker to replace him with SEG - the Sports Entertainment Group - who helped broker Robin van Persie's controversial transfer from Arsenal to Manchester United.

This is the clearest indication yet that the Roma star has set his sights on a move to England, providing he makes a full recovery from injury, with his return to action scheduled for next month.

Van Gaal and Manchester United's scouts will be monitoring Strootman's progress closely having identified him as the man they want to occupy the defensive midfield position from 2015 onwards.
