Manchester United must look after Adnan Januzaj

As Manchester United have slumped to an all-time low over the course of the past year, there has been one shining light: Adnan Januzaj.

The youngster - who burst onto the scene with a fine brace against Sunderland on his full Premier League debut last term - hasn't looked back since, and is now regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the division.

Under David Moyes, Januzaj became a key player for the Red Devils, and even featured in this past summer's World Cup for Belgium.

However, it's been a tricky opening period to this season for the 19-year-old, who has yet to start a game in this campaign. Januzaj has, however, featured in all four of the club's fixtures - four games that United have failed to win.

But, why won't Van Gaal play him from the start? Perhaps Van Gaal isn't entirely sure how to fit the youngster in at Old Trafford. Despite having not played a full 90 minutes yet this term, Januzaj has played in three different positions: right-wing back, central-midfield and in the No.10 role.

Januzaj is certainly versatile, but could that hinder his progression as he looks to find a permanent position in the United team? It's certainly not going to get any easier for the youngster, with the club having signed a number of top attacking players in recent weeks.

The youngster now has to battle the likes of Juan Mata, Angel di Maria, Wayne Rooney, Antonio Valencia and Co. in various positions at the Theatre of Dreams. In Mata, Di Maria, Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, Louis van Gaal has some of the greatest attacking players at his disposal this season.

But, the new United boss must make room for the most talented youngster in his squad. Januzaj is, without a doubt, the greatest prospect to ply his trade at Old Trafford since French midfielder Paul Pogba was at the club.

And we all know what happened to him...

Recent reports have indicated that Januzaj is unsure over his future at Old Trafford, and Van Gaal must act quickly in order to keep him happy. The Dutchman must give Januzaj a clear role at the Theatre of Dreams, and not only look to utilise him from the bench.

Despite still being a teenager, Januzaj is more than capable of being a key player under Van Gaal, and shouldn't be left out in the cold. Manchester United fans certainly wouldn't be very happy if Januzaj's opportunities become limited this season.

If the likes of Young and Valencia continue to start in front of him, he has every reason to become frustrated - as do the Manchester United fans. If at the end of this campaign, Januzaj asks to leave Old Trafford, then the United faithful would be far from pleased.

But, it shouldn't come to that: Van Gaal will surely look after him in the right way.

Positives for Januzaj

There are clear signs that the new United boss rates the youngster highly. After all he wouldn't have granted the Belgian international United's famous No.11 shirt if he hadn't see him as a big part of the club's future.

And if Van Gaal installs a 4-3-3 this term, then Januzaj - alongside Di Maria - is seemingly the perfect option out-wide. Before some of the summer additions, Januzaj appeared to be the only player willing to beat a man and excite the crowd, which is something the United faithful thrive upon.

At United, Januzaj has everything in place to become a star: Van Gaal has a great track record with young players, Giggs will overlook Januzaj's progression and the club are ambitious enough to fill Januzaj's needs. What can go wrong?

Don't get me wrong, the teenager shouldn't start every game, nor should he be relied upon by the club, but he should be given an important role - a role that he will ultimately excel in.
