Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United - what had initially appeared to be something of pure fantasy would now seem to be a story that has genuine legs. That depends who you believe on the subject, of course.

There has been speculation for a number of weeks that Ronaldo is keen to pursue a transfer back to Old Trafford having become disillusioned with life at Real Madrid, and the player has publicly expressed a desire to eventually return to Manchester United.

It could, however, happen sooner than expected. Guillem Balague claims ‘everything is in place’ for Ronaldo to become a Manchester United player once again - something he craves - although, of course, Madrid need to be convinced to sell first.

Balague has previous form with Manchester United transfers - Angel di Maria’s move being his latest scoop - so his word is often one that adds some sort of clout to any transfer rumours involving the club.

Where will he fit?

There have been some gargantuan figures mentioned regarding the proposed deal, with a transfer fee of £60 million and wages of £500,000-per week mooted, and Manchester United would appear to have the finances to do it.

Were he to arrive at the club then Louis van Gaal will have assembled one of the great attacking units. But where would Ronaldo fit if he was to return?

Here is an idea of where he may slot into a current United best XI.
