Fiorentina starlet Federico Bernardeschi turned down the chance to join Manchester United in the summer of 2011, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. The 20-year-old winger rejected an opportunity to move to Old Trafford after discussing the move with his family, who decided that it wasn't the right time to link up with the Premier League giants. Red Devils scouts have been well aware of the prodigious young talent for a number of years, despite only breaking through at Fiorentina this year. Bernardeschi was still plying his trade on loan in Serie 'B' last season, but was rewarded for his impressive form with a call-up to an Italy training camp under former national team boss Cesare Prandelli in March. News of Bernardeschi's transfer snub will come as a surprise to Manchester United supporters still reeling from Louis van Gaal's failure to land another Fiorentina star Juan Cuadrado this summer.
