Defender Ashley Williams praised the fine work from his team and his side's summer additions after Swansea's good start to the Premier League season.

With three wins in four matches, Swansea City have made their best start to a Premier League season since their arrival in 2011.

And Swansea summer signing Gylfi Sigurdson, who joined from Tottenham Hotspur for a deal worth £10million, has also made a very good second impression, scoring on his debut against Manchester United.

The Iceland midfielder has also created four goals in four games, which is the second highest number of assists so far this season behind Cesc Fabregas with six.

Williams exclusive interview

Williams told GiveMeSport: "We’ve got a good squad here, the additions have settled well.

"We did lose the [Chelsea] game and lost our early record but we’re still full of confidence."

Swansea kept their net goal-free on two occasions against Burnley and, then, West Brom, which place them second in the 'Clean Sheets' table this season.

Williams insisted that boss Gary Monk did not set any target before the season started and that, perhaps, put less pressure on their shoulders and allowed the Swans to play with more confidence and freedom.

No targets

He added: "We didn’t set a points target or a league position, we just wanted to really take it as it comes, do what we focused on really, the process rather than the end result.

"We wanted to start well, we wanted the three wins heading in to the international break and we got it.

"So I think the way we are going about it is just take the season in blocks probably and set out a points system in those blocks."

Swansea have showcased good attacking and defensive play so far but need to compensate for the departure of duo Michel Vorm and Ben Davies to Spurs, which was a blow.

New signings to feature

Nonetheless, new £9million signing Federico Fernández has now settled and should figure more for the Swans, which should bring a fresh strength.

Swansea meet Southampton at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon and with the Saints following the Swans' good start, standing fourth with seven points, it will be an exciting game as both sides are looking to keep their name in the top four.

He continued: "Everyone couldn’t wait to get back into training and fix a couple of things and really get back to our home style this weekend and try and get another three points."
