The weekend is here, and that means Premier League football is back! It also means the GiveMeSport gossip column is making a welcome reappearance.

Here we cover all of the day’s top stories in easy-to-consume bitesize chunks - delicious.

We’ve got Manchester United transfer news, an update on the Cristiano Ronaldo saga, Arsene Wenger defending his summer signings (again!), and a whole load of other great stuff from around the world of European football.

But we start with some controversial quotes on Chelsea from a former player…

Florent Malouda has ripped into Chelsea, claiming the club mistreated him during his final few years at Stamford Bridge.

The French winger said there was ‘no excuse’ for the way Chelsea behaved as he was frozen out of the first team set-up. The full quotes are behind L’Equipe’s pay-wall but Sport Witness have handily transcribed them.

Malouda said the Chelsea ‘leaders’ - presumably the board and management - did everything possible to ‘discredit’ the midfielder, sending him to train with the academy, reportedly as punishment for Malouda attempting to decide his own future.
