The top flight of Russia youth football descended into despicable violence earlier this week as punches and kicks rained down during a match between Lokomotiv Moscow and Dnepr Smolensk.

A video has emerged on YouTube showing the fight between the two sides, which seems to have started after a contested tackle.

The punches fly in as both sides weigh in, before one player comes flying into shot with a remarkable kung-fu kick to an opponent’s chest.

Thankfully, the victim bounces straight back up and appears to be OK, but it’s a pretty shocking attack for what is supposed to be just a game.

Tensions were obviously running high and the referee appeared to be handing out a booking to one Smolensk player before the fight started. A punch starts the whole thing off, and it escalates rapidly.

Eventually, after about 35 seconds, the two sides are separated and the offenders ushered away from the field of play.
