Football News

Manchester United fans are set to demonstrate their love to Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo by flying a 'come home' banner over Real Madrid's fixture with Villarreal on Saturday.

This has been reported by, who have suggested that United Reel - a Manchester United supporters group - are desperate to show Ronaldo just how much they want him to return to Old Trafford.

It appears, then, that they will fly an aircraft over the Estadio El Madrigal with a banner reading the words "Come Home Ronaldo – United Reel". The stunt will certainly prove great publicity for the United supporters group, but will it help make Ronaldo's mine up over a possible transfer back to Old Trafford?

Potential return

Despite selling Ronaldo for a then world record fee of £80 million to Real in 2009, the superstar has often gone on record declaring his love for the Red Devils. And, with United seemingly splashing the cash for fun, it's not surprising that the club have been linked with his services once again.

At 29, some may argue that Ronaldo is approaching the latter stages of his career, but he's certainly showing no signs of slowing down. After all, his tremendous four goals in Real Madrid's 5-1 victory over Elche last night proved he still takes some stopping.

It remains to be seen, however, as to whether the Manchester United hierarchy are ready to stump up the cash for his signature, but it would certainly prove a major coup as they go in search of glory.

United superstars

If Louis van Gaal can bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, then he will have a number of superstars at his disposal. The Red Devils spent over £150 million in this past summer's transfer window as they landed the likes of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria.

And with Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata, Robin van Persie and Co. already at Old Trafford, Van Gaal has put together a star-studded line-up at the Theatre of Dreams. United fans, though, will be hoping that, as well as the Ronaldo signature, the club invest heavily in defence in the near future.
