Football News

Although the season may only just have started, we have had some of the biggest matches of the season so far: Manchester City earned five points against Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, but one of the biggest matches of the season is coming up: Arsenal vs Tottenham.

Arsenal are still recovering from a 1-2 defeat to Southampton which knocked them out of the Capital One Cup, while Tottenham are hoping to improve their poor form of two points in four games. One thing is certain: both sides will come out of the Emirates tunnel looking for a victory.

Here are five key conflict that will rage throughout the match, and their predicted winners.

1. Mikel Arteta vs Christian Eriksen

Of all the players in the Tottenham side, Christian Eriksen is undoubtedly the most threatening to Arsenal. They should indeed be worried as their captain Mikel Arteta is likely to be the only player regularly supporting the defence. If the Dane is on form, he could wreak havoc at the Emirates.

Winner: Christian Eriksen.

2. Alexis Sánchez vs Danny Rose

On the other hand, Tottenham could be set for trouble at the hands of Alexis Sánchez. Danny Rose, full back who simply loves to get forward, will have to play defensively and be on top of his game if he's to contain the dynamic Chilean, whose majestic free kick midweek was the highlight of an Arsenal side splitting at the seams.

Winner: Alexis Sánchez.

3: Kieran Gibbs vs Érik Lamela

This could prove a particularly interesting clash. Lamela has started the season very brightly, hoping to justify the much-criticised £30m move from Roma in 2013. Meanwhile Kieran Gibbs has grown from a shy youngster into an excellent full back, but is sometimes caught out defensively. This battle largely depends on the form of the two, but simply due to the attacking mindset of Kieran Gibbs the Argentine gets the nod.

Winner: Érik Lamela

4: Aaron Ramsey vs Moussa Dembélé

Ramsey and Dembélé both act as deep-lying playmakers, one moment mopping up in deep midfield, the next surging forward to create chances. Dembélé has been in good form, while Ramsey's slight dip in quality has been blamed largely on an injury he picked up on international duty.  But, nonetheless, one would expect the Welshman to come out on top.

Winner: Aaron Ramsey.

5: Mesut Özil vs Étienne Capoue

Arsenal fans will be praying that Arsène Wenger plays Mesut Özil in his preferred position of Number 10. Should he be played there and produce a performance alike to that he produced away to Aston Villa last weekend, Capoue, who has started all five of Tottenham's Premier League games so far, will not stand a chance.

Winner: Mesut Özil.
