Nani emerges unscathed from car crash

Manchester United winger Nani has suffered a car accident in Lisbon, reports from the Portuguese media suggest.

A Bola claims that the 27-year-old - who is currently away from Old Trafford after re-joining former club Sporting on a season-long deal as part of the agreement that took Argentine international to Manchester United - was involved in a collision outside the Casino Lisboa just after midday on Wednesday.

Thankfully, the same source confirms that Nani exited the vehicle standing and is not thought to have suffered any injuries.

Old Trafford flop?

Manchester United's decision to offload Nani this summer - at least temporarily - did not come as much of a surprise to supporters, with the player's stock having fallen dramatically over the years.

While he showed flashes of quality and inspiration during his seven-year stint in the Premier League, ultimately such showings became all too rare and his sheer inconsistency eventually became an enormous source of frustration for both Sir Alex Ferguson and doomed successor David Moyes.

Indeed, Nani made just 11 appearances in total throughout the entire 2013/14 campaign and featured just once under new manager Louis van Gaal - 44 minutes of Manchester United's disappointing 2-1 opening day home defeat to Swansea City - prior to returning to the Estadio Jose Alvalade in mid-August.

Impressive loan start

Since moving back to Sporting, Nani appears to have discovered a touch of form. After scoring an impressive goal for Marco Silva's side during their hard-fought 1-1 Champions League draw with Slovenian outfit Maribor a fortnight ago, he also found the net during the 4-0 rout of Gil Vicente on Sunday that preserved Verde-e-Brancos' unbeaten start to the new campaign.

If Nani keeps it up throughout the season, it will be interesting to see if he does go on to exit Manchester United permanently in 2015 or if Van Gaal has a change of heart and decides to attempt to re-integrate him back into his first-team squad alongside the likes of Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao.
