Liverpool are being linked with a shock January move for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The Daily Mail claims the Reds are analysing the player's current situation with the Premier League champions, and could make a big bid in the New Year.

Mignolet replacement?

It's not the first time the England stopper has been linked with a move to Anfield, with speculation earlier in the week claiming Liverpool could draft in the 27-year-old to replace Simon Mignolet.

The Belgian has been inconsistent for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers in recent times, but the club have limited options behind the number one with Brad Jones still the second choice available.

Depth is not a problem they have at Manchester City, with manager Manuel Pellegrini signing Willy Caballero in the summer transfer window to challenge Joe Hart.

And, the Argentine appears to have taken his chance at the Etihad Stadium, starting for the Citizens in the league on Saturday ahead of his rival Hart.

No longer No.1

It's this subsequent demotion which will add fuel to the fire over a possible move away from Manchester City, and it remains to be seen if Pellegrini would sell to a potential rival during the season.

Liverpool will hope the answer is yes, and if Rodgers is willing to put big money on the table, then the Merseyside outfit have a chance.
