Dominick Cruz fought for the first time in three years on Saturday night and he sure made it looked like he'd never left with a crushing victory over Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 178.

It took the former UFC Bantamweight champion just one minute to finish Mizugaki and with it seal himself a title shot against TJ Dillashaw in the near future, as per Ariel Helwani.

The spectacular return for Cruz was the main fight on the UFC's pre-show card, which aired on FOXSports 1 and the broadcaster has made the 'full' fight available on their YouTube channel.

Watch Cruz destroy Mizugaki

If there were any concerns that Mizugaki would be a tough opponent for Cruz, he soon distilled that notion with a wonderful takedown.

That takedown was followed up by some spot-on punches that left Mizugaki reeling and, ultimately, out of it as Cruz threw uncontested punch after punch.

And if Helwani's information is to be believed, which it usually is, then Cruz has just earned himself a shot at the very bantamweight title he never lost in the first place.

The Originator vs The Pretender

Cruz's proposed shot at TJ Dillashaw will see him take on someone who's style is based on his own.

Dillashaw adapted his style to one that is similar to Cruz's in order to defeat Renan Barao but now the originator is back and will want to prove that you can't beat the original.

It will also renew Cruz's battle with Team Alpha Male, of which founder, Urijah Faber is the only man to beat Cruz throughout his career.

Faber was well beaten by Cruz in the rematch and although Faber was asking for a match with Cruz first, he was brushed aside by Cruz in a post-fight interview.

So it's on Dillashaw to overcome a determined Cruz, a man looking to regain his former glory with the same fight style that has revolutionised the lighter weight divisions.

Expect nothing short of astounding footwork, well placed punches and explosiveness. Whether it lasts for just a minute or goes the full distance, the fans are in for a masterclass.
