Cristiano Ronaldo has no intention of returning to finish his career at Manchester United, and hates the city of Manchester, according to sensational comments made by former El Mundo editor Eduardo Inda.
The Spanish journalist told La Sexta (as translated by Le 10 Sport) that Madrid fans could rest easy when it came to the speculation that their best player would be returning to his former club, as the move was never going to happen.
Despite strong rumours persisting in stating that Ronaldo will eventually move back to Old Trafford, with United having reportedly set aside money to fund a big move, Inda believes that the player will rule out a glorious homecoming, even going as far as to claim he would “rather play in hell.”
“He has been clear on this, he would play in hell rather than return to Manchester,” Inda told an incredulous audience.
“He hates the city of Manchester and the entourage of the club, but he is grateful because he is where he is because of them."
The comments are sure to incense the United faithful, who had reason to begin getting optimistic with regards to Ronaldo’s return. The Portuguese forward is a hero at Old Trafford, where he enjoyed a successful spell between 2003 and 2009, and the powers that be at the Premier League club would love to be reunited with him.
Indeed the player himself has commented in the past about his love for his old club, and so Inda’s theory has very little backing it up. Unless it highlights a part of Ronaldo’s character that he has thus far kept hidden from the mainstream media then United supporters won’t be ready to read too much into it.
Ronaldo at Madrid
On top of that is the fact that the Santiago Bernabeu superstar is said to be more unsettled in Spain than he has ever been, with the respective departures of Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso having left him with cause for agitation.
Numerous reports documented earlier this month how he was miffed at president Florentino Perez for getting rid of players he felt were integral to Madrid’s ambitions, and there’s a great number of people who have predicted he his nearing the end of his La Liga career.
Aside from that though Ronaldo is also believed to be intent on breaking more records with Los Blancos, and having already amassed ten goals in five games for Madrid this season he is on course to record another incredible year.
In truth it is feasible that Ronaldo might return to United, though any move in the near future is unlikely whilst he remains firing on all cylinders. As for Inda’s claim, fans will now be awaiting some sort of clarification from the player himself as to whether it carries the least bit of valid weight.
