Joey Barton has risked angering Arsenal fans by slating the Gunners and boss Arsene Wenger with his most recent comments, according to Metro.
The paper this morning runs quotes from the QPR midfielder which lash-out at Arsenal and criticise their setup. Despite the fact his side sit rock-bottom of the Premier League table, Barton was quick to point out the flaws of Wenger’s team, and even had a dig at the Frenchman himself.
Barton criticisms
When asked what he thought of Wenger’s abilities as a manager, during an interview with BBC 5 Live Radio, Barton said: “Other managers have him on toast.”
Then, when asked what the problem was when the Gunners face up against big Premier League sides, the controversial 32-year-old explained: “You look around the Arsenal dressing room now, the people who would win you those kind of – they don’t really have an abundance of them.
“They lack character or spine within the team.”

The response
Of course Barton’s words are unlikely to be taken too seriously by Wenger, who has almost two decades worth of experience in England’s top flight. Arsenal face Chelsea at home tomorrow in a clash which could go some way to dictating their fortunes this season.
Having started off slow the Gunners only managed a draw with Tottenham in the north London derby last weekend, but rallied to record a rampant win over Galatasaray in the Champions League mid-week. Wenger will know that tomorrow’s game will be tough at Stamford Bridge, but a surprise win could derail Jose Mourinho’s side’s momentum.
