Liverpool have been watching Belgian youngster Youri Tielemans, according to the Mirror.

It's been suggested that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers could now make a move for the 17-year-old in the near future after he sent representatives to watch him at Anderlecht this past week.

It appears, then, that Liverpool could step up their interest in the highly rated defensive-midfielder in the near future. Rodgers' side may, however, have to battle German giants Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich in order to bring him to the Premier League.

It's not surprising that a number of Europe's top clubs have been linked with the teenager of late as he's seen as one of the best up coming youngsters in Belgium. In fact, he was the youngest ever Belgian player to star in the Champions League last year, so he would prove quite the coup for Rodgers at Anfield.

If Liverpool can secure his signature, however, then the youngster will have to battle with a number of top stars on Merseyside. The Reds already have the likes of Steven Gerrard, Lucas, Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson in their ranks, but it appears that the club are ready to invest in youth.

Gerrard, of course, can't go on forever, and it appears that the Reds chief is planning for the long term at the club.
