Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has hailed teammate Karim Benzema as the best striker in La Liga, reports AS.

Benzema, who netted a brace in Real's 5-0 demolition of Athletic Bilbao last night, has been the subject of criticism in recent time at the Bernabeu.

One of the best

Ronaldo, though, has backed the Frenchman, and insisted that he's one of the best forwards in world football.

Speaking about Benzema after Real's convincing win last night, the World Player of the Year said: "I’m delighted for him. He’s the best forward in La Liga and one of the best in the world. The criticisms he receives are part of being a professional footballer and we need to rise above them."

Benzema was, however, overshadowed by Ronaldo who was once again in terrific form for Carlo Ancelotti's side last night. The Portuguese superstar hit his third hat-trick in five games as he continues to destroy La Liga.

In fact, Ronaldo also praised the combination play between himself, Benzema and Gareth Bale. He continued by saying: "It’s working; we’re used now to playing together and are very happy".

Benzema interest

Despite Ronaldo's insistence that Benzema is one of the world's best, the striker has continued to be linked with a move to the Premier League in recent time. In fact, only a couple of days ago it was reported that Liverpool had agreed a huge £38.8 million deal for the forward who has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.

There's no doubt about it, Benzema would improve Arsenal and Liverpool in attack, but it remains to be seen as to whether the Spanish giants would be prepared to sell their star forward in 2015.

Arsenal and Liverpool both added to their striker department in the previous summer transfer window, as the Gunners landed Danny Welbeck from Manchester United, whilst Liverpool signed Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli. The clubs' pursuit of Benzema, however, may well go on for some time.

For now, though, Benzema will be hoping to prove his critics wrong in La Liga as he continues to be a key man under Carlo Ancelotti.
