Following his surprise return during this week's Monday Night Raw, many WWE fans hoped that this meant the start of a return to the industry for The Rock, but this is apparently not the case.
During a brief interview with a TMZ reporter, The Great One aired his thoughts on a possible appearance at WrestleMania next year, which if it were to occur, would undoubtedly delight the WWE Universe.
When asked whether or not he would be making a return on The Grandest Stage of Them All next year, he said: "I don't think so, no. I might get hit in the mouth, I don't want that!"
Though not the answer many followers of WWE would have wanted to hear, the fact his response was short, witty and required the interviewer to ask several times, might indicate that this is not in fact the truth.
If we are to see an appearance made by The People's Champ at WrestleMania XXXI, whether we are aware of it or not, the reception he received when his music hit on Monday night, proved what the reaction of the WWE Universe would be should it happen.
The Rock made a welcome return on Raw when he interrupted Rusev to give him a few home truths as well as unleashing some powerful blows on him.
The way Rusev stood back and practically accepted what The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment had to say, emphasised the latter's experience within WWE, with the 15,000-strong crowd in Brooklyn chanting in unison to show their support for The Great One, too.
Praise from Triple H
The connection this WWE legend has with the company and its fans has been praised this week by none other than Triple H, he said:
“It is awesome that as big as The Rock has become outside of WWE, you can see when he is here that there is nothing in the world like stepping into a ring and igniting the WWE Universe,” he told WWE.com.
“It is by far the greatest thing that he does – you could see the goosebumps on his body in one of the most electrifying moments in the history of Raw."
The impact The Brahma Bull has on the WWE Universe therefore is doubtlessly one of the biggest in the business and despite not knowing for certain when it will be, we will surely be captivated by his next appearance.
There had also been murmurings of Rock vs Rusev next year. The two staged a compelling face-off on Monday Night Raw. However, that was done just as a one off, with Rock in the New York area on business at the same time as WWE’s Raw event.
For now, we should probably take Rock’s TMZ comments at face value. That means no WrestleMania match for WWE’s most famous superstar
