Rumors have been rife this week regarding a WrestleMania 31 return for The Rock after the People's Champion shocked WWE fans when he turned up at the latest Monday Night Raw in Brooklyn.

Fans went wild as The Rock saved what was turning out to be a pretty poor show. Naturally, since Raw there have been plenty of reports suggesting that The Rock will compete at WrestleMania 31 next year.

Unbelievable statement

But on Wednesday The Rock denied the rumors in an interview with TMZ Sports with a shocking and frankly unbelievable statement. Speaking to a TMZ paparazzo who approached him in the street, The Rock opened up on the WrestleMania 31 rumors with a tongue-in-cheek style answer.

Asked whether he was returning to WWE for WrestleMania 31, The Rock answered while laughing, "I don't think so. I might get hit in the mouth."

Last appearance

The Rock hasn't had a match in WWE since WrestleMania 29. He was supposed to be heading into a long feud immediately following his match with John Cena at WrestleMania 31, but he sustained abdominal and abductor tendon tears in the match which forced him under the knife.

This was a massive blow for WWE as it forced them to re-write their script for a few months and the WWE Universe missed out on seeing the People's Champion, but despite The Rock's latest comments, it's obvious he is playing things cool and it's highly likely he will return for WrestleMania 31.

Could be forced out

But it won't be easy for WWE to book The Rock for WrestleMania 31, with many obstacles still standing in their way.

The main one at the moment is the pressure that movie studios in Hollywood are putting on WWE. It has been reported that they fear The Rock could sustain an injury, with the ramifications of his last WWE legitimate injury delaying the filming of his movie Hercules.

But when it comes down to it, if The Rock really wants to perform at WrestleMania 31, he will do so.
