There has been speculation surrounding a return to professional wrestling from the legend that is Sting for some time and there has been a development in the likeliness of a possible appearance from him soon.
Despite being at an age which many wrestlers would not be willing to make an in-ring return to wrestling, there has been a lot of talk about Sting making an appearance in WWE in the future with possible opponents being John Cena or rather more ambitiously, The Undertaker.

There is no denying the success of Sting within professional wrestling and with the release of WWE 2K15 imminent, Stephanie McMahon spoke of his prominence in the game as well as hinting at a future WWE appearance for the star:
"One of the greatest Superstars of all time to never grace the WWE ring was Sting, all I can say is that I'm thrilled to have him be a part of WWE 2K15 and who knows that the future holds."
If the recent statistics of merchandise sales at arenas as announced by Wrestling Observer are anything to go by, Sting's return may well take place at a pay-per-view event sooner than some had thought.
According to the Wrestling Observer, these are the top 10 best sellers in arena over the last month:
1. John Cena
2. Roman Reigns
3. The Usos
4. The Wyatt Family
5. Brock Lesnar
8. Daniel Bryan
9. Dean Ambrose
10. Hulk Hogan
Figures like these are of note because not only is more merchandise sold at events, but more general fans make the purchases.
This means that what is interesting from this list is not only that someone like John Cena is topping it, notably because of his popularity and wide range of products, but also the fact that wrestlers such as Sting and Hulk Hogan have still made the top ten.
These two wrestling legends don not make regular appearances on WWE and therefore would seem less likely to sell as much merchandise, yet they are clearly still popular with a large number of fans.
Sting's name however is what takes the eye most in the list as he has never appeared under WWE on one of their live shows, which proves the following he has as well as the potential for this fan base to increase should he make an appearance in the near future.
This also improves the likeliness of a match involving Sting at WrestleMania XXXI next year, as WWE will be more than aware of the volume of fans he currently has and how much more of the WWE Universe would be drawn in should he wrestle at the company's biggest pay-per-view event next year.
