David Moyes has backed Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj to reach his incredible potential to become one of the best players in Europe.
While Moyes struggled to make the right kind of history at Old Trafford, he did hand Januzaj his senior debut. The teenager was fast-tracked from the academy squad at the request of Moyes and went on the feature in 27 Premier League games.
Things are different under Louis van Gaal. Januzaj has been relegated to Manchester United's Under-21 squad and is yet to start a Premier League game this season. With the Dutchman opting to bring Angel Di Maria to the squad this summer, Januzaj's position in the squad has well and truly regressed.
However, the former Red Devils boss has backed the 19-year-old to win Van Gaal's trust. In fact Moyes believe Januzaj has the potential to become one of the best player's in Europe, comparing his talent to that of a young Wayne Rooney.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Moyes said: “Adnan Januzaj is, in my managerial time, the best young talent up there with Wayne Rooney. You can see what he can become. When we had Wayne at Everton you could see the potential.
"Januzaj has got all that at the same age as Wayne. He’s one of the best young talents in Europe and he will go on to become one of the best players."
Januzaj certainly made an immediate impression last season. The Belgium international was given chances to impress from the bench in the early parts of the season before being awarded his full debut against Sunderland in October. He repaid Moyes with a game-winning brace.
But Moyes said that Januzaj was already looking like a special player in his eyes before the season had even started.
“When we went on tour last year he was one of the pluses. He did very well. There was a lot said about him. We came back and within a month we could not believe the change in him - he could go past people inside, outside, to the left, to the right.
“He had a bit of Chris Waddle about him. Chris Waddle used to slow you down and make you feel comfortable and before you knew it he was gone. Adnan has that. He can eliminate people.
"Yes, of course, he was young and he was going to not do it all the time but he has incredible skill, a good temperament and with the right degree of arrogance. Wayne was different but in the same way as we saw something special in him at Everton we saw that in Adnan Januzaj. I can only see the boy going right to the top
