Sami Khedira spotted training in England

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has intensified speculation that his dream Premier League switch will materialise in January by flying to England this week and training at St George's Park.

Khedira has been consistently linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and even Manchester United after snubbing Madrid's efforts to talk terms over a new contract, with a trip to England fuelling speculation passed on by the Evening Standard that a January move is very much on the cards.

Promotional work creates chance for transfer talks

News that Khedira was at England's new luxury training base broke late on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to a promotional tweet from Nike's official account dedicated to an initiative that's created a team given the best possible training to improve their chances of a professional career.

Khedira met the squad at their Burton base yesterday and got involved in a training session, showing he's well on the way to a full recovery from a torn thigh muscle that has kept him sidelined for the last month.

A frustrating injury problem served as a huge setback to Khedira's chances of putting down a marker that he deserved regular game time at the start of the season, particularly after Madrid decided to sell Xabi Alonso.

Wage demands remain an issue

Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti would still love to persuade Khedira that he has a long-term at the Bernabeu beyond the length of his current deal, but if there's no breakthrough in talks over the next two months the World Cup winner will be sold to the highest bidder in January.

Arsenal remain in pole position to finally sign a physically imposing midfielder proven at the highest level, although a £200,000-a-week deal failed to materialise last summer despite reports of an agreement over personal terms.

United have tried to sign Khedira on more than one occasion in the past and will surely get involved in this transfer tussle if the opportunity presents itself, with the Red Devils showing with a club-record £150m summer spend they are ready to keep shopping in search of instant success.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho also has a strong working relationship with the 27-year-old, so don't be surprised if any of those three English sides rushed to the midlands to hold transfer talks with Khedira in the last 24 hours.
